Empresa fundada por John Jacob Astor en 1808, que dominó el comercio peletero estadounidense a comienzos del s.

XIX. La firma, que se considera el primer monopolio comercial de EE.UU., absorbió a sus rivales o los desplazó de toda la parte central y occidental del país. Las exploraciones de sus tramperos y traficantes contribuyeron a abrir la frontera a la colonización. En 1834, cuando Astor vendió su compañía, esta ya era la empresa comercial más grande de EE.UU.
